چکیده

Despite the many studies on stellar nucleosynthesis published so far, the scenario for the production of Cu in stars remains elusive. In particular, it is still debated whether copper originates mostly in massive stars or type Ia supernovae. To answer this question, we compute self-consistent chemical evolution models taking into account the results of updated stellar nucleosynthesis. By contrasting copper evolution in ω Cen and the Milky Way, we end up with a picture where massive stars are the major responsible for the production of Cu in ω Cen as well as the Galactic disc.

On the formation and evolution of the globular cluster ω Centauri

By means of N-body/hydrodynamical simulations we model the evolution of a primordial 108M density peak which ends up in an object closely resembling the present day globular cluster ω Centauri. We succeed to reproduce the main features of the cluster, namely the structure, kinematics and metallicity distribution. We suggest that ω Centauri might be a cosmological dwarf elliptical, formed at hig...

On the origin of fluorine in the Milky Way

The main astrophysical factories of fluorine (F) are thought to be Type II supernovae, Wolf–Rayet stars, and the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) of intermediate mass stars. We present a model for the chemical evolution of fluorine in the Milky Way using a semi-analytic multi-zone chemical evolution model. For the first time, we demonstrate quantitatively the impact of fluorine nucleosynthesis in ...

The Evolution of Copper in the Globular Cluster Ω Centauri

Copper abundances are presented for 40 red-giant members of the massive Galactic globular cluster ω Centauri, as well as 15 red-giant members of the globular clusters NGC288, NGC362, NGC3201, NGC6752, and M4 (NGC6121). The spectra are of relatively high spectral-resolution and signal-to-noise. Using these abundances, plus published literature values for field stars, the abundance trends of [Cu/...

Disruption of a Dwarf Galaxy Under Strong Shocking: The Origin of ω Centauri

We perform N-body simulations of the dynamical evolution of a dwarf galaxy falling into the Milky Way galaxy in order to understand the formation scenario of the peculiar globular cluster ω Centauri. We use self-consistent models of the bulge and the disc of the Milky Way, as well as of the dwarf galaxy, and explore a range of dwarf models with different density distributions. Namely, we use Ki...

The origin of abundance spreads observed in ω Centauri is studied in the context of the self-enrichment scenario. Five chemical evolution models are constructed and are compared with empirical metallicity distribution of ω Cen. After a series of simulations, it is found that neither of closed-box, outflow, nor infall models can reproduce the empirical metallicity distribution of ω Cen, while a ...
